Faith Formation Commission
The Faith Formation Commission collaborates with the Coordinator of Faith Formation to oversee opportunities for life-long faith learning including but not limited to: sacramental preparation for children and adults, the Sunday Morning children’s formation program, Bible studies, parish retreats, Vacation Bible School and programs and event planned with other parishes and the deanery. The commission ideally consists of 9 members and meets 10 months out of the year, taking time off in December and July.
Adult Education / Evangelization
This ministry provides a process to renew a parishioner’s faith and to inspire them to reach out to others by sharing the gospel of Jesus. Anyone that is interested in making our parish grow by being witnesses of the gospel of Jesus is welcome to join the leadership of this ministry. The ministry is greatly interested in expanding its efforts in the coming year by continuing the small faith groups during Lent, and continuing the adult faith formation presentations on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP)
The two day weekend retreat is a weekend of reflection and sharing of spiritual and real life issues. It is a perfect way to establish a stronger bond with God and fellow parishioners. Many participants feel that the weekend was among the most powerful and positive experiences of their lives. There are two sessions, one for men and one for women.
Marriage Preparation includes (in part) married couples who assist engaged couples as they prepare to enter into the sacramental bond of Holy Matrimony. These preparation couples are trained for this ministry. They meed quarterly or semi-annually to update and support one another.
The Rite of Christian Initiation functions to educate adults (non-baptized and other Christians) about the Catholic Faith and prepare them to enter the Church if they so desire.
While many candidates and catechumens choose their own sponsers, frequently members of the parish volunteer to help in this area. Sponsors act as a friend and spiritual companion for the person journeying toward full communion in the Catholic Church.
Children’s Faith Formation
The goal of our Sunday Morning Religious Education Program is to teach parish elementary and middle school students who attend public schools. We have this ministry so that we might act upon our God-given privilege and responsibility of educating parish children in the Catholic faith. Catechists (teachers) are dedicated to helping students understand their Catholic faith, prepare them for the Sacraments, and become active members of the parish community. This program runs from mid-August through May on Sundays at 10:25am. See the Religious Education Calendar for the detailed calendar for the 2014-2015 school year. New and returning families should read the Welcome Letter from the director of religious education, and will need to print, complete, and return the religious education registration form and photo release form.
Youth Ministry serves our high school students. The ministry is holistic in its approach, including religious education classes, social activities, youth Masses, service projects, Confirmation preparation, and leadership training. For more, see the Terre Haute Youth Ministry website.
